RENO COUNTY, Kan. UPDATE: Reno County Sheriff Randy Henderson released more information Wednesday on a farming accident that left a 5-year-old dead.

Henderson says the sheriff’s office received a call Tuesday evening about a child possibly trapped in a grain bin. When they arrived, they learned the child had been standing on the front of a trailer with his brother where someone was removing grain from a bin by an auger.
Henderson says another member of the family who was using the auger told the boys to get down because “it was unsafe on the front of the trailer. Henderson says that’s when the 5-year-old tried to climb down but his pant leg was caught in the power takeoff of the tractor.

The boy is identified as Adam Schrock. Sheriff Henderson says Adam came from a farming family and was around farming equipment his whole life. He says nobody is at fault for what happened, and calls the situation a “horrible accident.”

“This family is so strong. They were checking on our welfare as we were checking on them. Amazing faith in their family,” said Henderson.

Henderson says people from the community were at the home within an hour of accident offering support for the family. The family is asking for privacy at this time.
