Three-year-old Emery Adam of Neoga died Friday after slipping off a tractor and falling underneath a tire, said Coles County Coroner Ed Schniers.

The boy was transported to Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, where he died at 5:28 p.m., according to an obituary.

Emery Adam had been riding next to his grandfather on a tractor in Neoga when he slipped off the tractor, the coroner said. Schniers said Emery’s grandfather had taken him on tractor rides many times before and that the boy’s death was accidental.

“There was no foul play or anything,” he said.

In an obituary, Emery Adam is described as a free-spirited boy who enjoyed the outdoors and going for rides in his father Jed Adam’s Bronco.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Church of God in Effingham. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at that church. His burial will be in Mullen Cemetery in Montrose.
