TOWN OF TURIN — A 5-year-old boy was killed in Lewis County Sunday morning after being hit by a skid steer on East Road, according to law enforcement officials.
Sheriff’s deputies said the operator of the skid steer was unloading bales of hay on East Road at about 9:18 p.m. when the 5-year-old boy approached the machine from behind. Deputies said the driver did not see the boy and the child was hit by a rear tire.
The operator immediately got out and called 9-1-1, rendering medical aid to the child. Deputies said the victim was rushed to the county hospital, where he died from his injuries.
The identities of the child and the driver have not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin. Deputies said the investigation remains ongoing.
