Michigan State Police have released the details of a Hilsdale County drowning death involving a three-year-old boy which took place Friday night at a farm in the 7100 block of Fowler Road near Reading.

Troopers say the youngster had been playing in and around a barn on the farm. The child was leaning over into an area where a trough of water is kept to fill a toy squirt gun but fell head first in to the trough.

Nearby family members found the child who had only been in the water for a few minutes. The child was pulled from the water, he was unconscious and unresponsive. A neighbor was summoned and 911 called.

CPR was initiated on the child and was continued until rescue personnel arrived and took over lifesaving efforts.

The child was eventually flown by the Lifeflight helicopter to Mercy Saint Vincent Hospital in Toledo, Ohio where he was pronounced dead after lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful.
