A 1-year-old child was rescued from a backyard tilapia farm after he fell into a partially-buried 55-gallon drum of water in unincorporated Clearwater on Saturday.

Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office reported the near drowning incident at 2581 Highland Acres Drive where the 1-year-old, Anthony Petroski, was found by his father lying face down in the water around 6:06 p.m.

Detectives said that the near drowning appears to be accidental in nature.

According to the news release, the victim was with his father, Alexander Petroski, in their backyard as Alexander was working. The father apparently looked away for less than a minute and could not find Anthony after he wandered off.

After discovering Anthony in the 55-gallon drum, Alexander then pulled his son out of the water and performed CPR until Dunedin Fire Rescue arrived at the scene. Anthony was taken to Mease Countryside Hospital with life threatening injuries.
