A 17-year-old boy is dead and a 16-year-old boy is injured after an ATV accident in Box Elder County Saturday morning.

At about 9:30 a.m., the teens were riding an ATV in the Hansen Valley, near Howell, about 15-20 miles southwest of Interstate 84. The 17-year-old was driving with his 16-year-old cousin as a passenger.

During the ride, the teen went down a slight incline at about 20 mph when they hit a small wash out in the sage brush and grass, according to a press release from the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office.

The vehicle struck the wash causing the ATV to roll, ejecting both riders.

The 17-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 16-year-old was air lifted to Ogden Regional Hospital by Air Care Helicopter with two broken arms.

According to the release the family was in the area from Idaho looking for cattle at the time of the accident.
